This video was created as a PR piece for Head Start of Lane County by a team of University of Oregon students enrolled in the School of Journalism and Communication.
At Head Start of Lane County, children are given the opportunity to take their first steps toward a formal education. Head Start programs promote school readiness by focusing on the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of health, nutritional, social and other services to enroll children and families. Head Start doesn’t just focus on the children, but also engages parents in their children’s learning and helps parents in making progress toward their educational, literacy and employment goals.
For my Digital Media Production class we were assigned to create a music video that featured a compelling story, exhibited formal video technique (proper lighting, framing, etc.) and seamless editing. We were allowed to choose any song we wanted, as long as it had lyrics. I had thought of this particular concept while sitting on the beach in Maui during spring break, and was wondering when I would have the time to produce it during school. Luckily, this assignment came along. Shot on an HMC-40, the University of Oregon’s journalism equipment and edited in FCPX. Enjoy!
Luvable dog rescue is located on the outskirts of Eugene, Oregon (30415 Le Bleu Rd). Nestled amongst an alcove of tall, strong trees, it provides a shelter for these dogs that are on the verge of being put down. It began as a humble initiative but managed to garner a sizable donation and through the help of volunteer work, has flourished into a safe haven for so many abused and rejected dogs. Luvable is unique because it is filled with passionate, caring individuals who dedicate their time and energy into looking after these pets. The shelter maintains long-term relationships with individuals and families who chose to adopt, encouraging them to spread the message to friends and family. There is a true sense of community between the dogs and the people who work and volunteer there.
